On the shore of the Mekhong River, the boarder between Thailand and Laos, lies the town of Thakhek. Amongst the French colonial buildings and rice fields, lies Mary House, the newest joint mission in the Redemptorist Conference of Asia – Oceania. This Redemptorist formation house is home to high school students, pre-major seminarians and Redemptorist seminarians who are in “immersion” year.
The Redemptorists in Laos are committed to supporting the needs of different communities and local church. They do so through their Parish mission. They serve 4 parishes: Ban DonDone, Ban Kokay, Ban Nanongkeo and Ban Chienglong. Each parish composed of 30, or 50 or 110 of Catholic families. The regular work is Sunday Mass, Church feasts, Christmas celebration, Paschal season, saints occasions, funerals.
The mission was launched in 2008 by the Redemptorists of Thailand. The Redemptorists of Vietnam were soon to join as Thakhek has a substantial Vietnamese community. Together they journey with the people of Laos.
